Mongolian Traditional Luner New Year, Tsagaan Sar, is celebrated in or around February depending on the Mongolian lunar calendar. This year, Tsagaan Sar will begin in 27 of February in 2017.Tsagaan Sar, meaning White Month or Moon, is one the main two big public annual events. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring and the new year`s cycle. The day before New Years’ Day is known as Bituun, meaning “to close down”. First, houses must be cleaned out thoroughly, which is often a day-long task. Watch Mongolian wrestling competitions on TV, like many Mongolians do on their New Year’s Eve. On Lunar New Year itself, people visit their relatives, beginning with their parents and continuing in order of descending age. They make many short visits to dozens of relatives. Eat “Lunar New Year food,” including: “buuz” – a steamed dumpling – special cookies that are stacked in a pyramid, rice mixed with curds or raisins, sheep’s tail, horse meat, pastries filled with minced mutton, and a full side of sheep on the grill. Dress up in traditional nomadic clothes, called “del,” which almost everyone wears this time of year. Therefore the highlights for this tour and celebration are playing traditional games, receiving gifts just for visiting and traveling on horse. The tour is a great chance to experience a Mongolian custom and winter while traveling in a comfortable transport and staying at nomadic family not in touristic area.

Day 1. 24th February. Ulaanbaatar.
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and optional full and half day tours are available.
Day 2. 25th February. Nomadic family.
Today we will drive south to nomad family far from Ulaanbaatar. We will visit nomadic family, learn about the basic nomadic way of the life. Feel free to ask any questions about their way of life. Stay overnight with family in a traditional Mongolian ger. ( Ger/ L, D)
Day 3. 26th of February. Preview of the New Year Eve “Bituun” with Nomadic family
Today is Preview of the New Year Eve, Bituun, is a day of preparation. The family cleans dwelling the ger and makes sure that everything starts the New Year full: containers of water, containers of rise and flour and piles of dried cow dung to be used as fuel, with the evening feast, everyone’s stomachs. You will enjoy whole day with nomadic family and you can feel real life of Mongolians. Day 4. 27th of February. The First Day of the New Year
This morning Mongolians orientate and men climb the nearest hill or a mountain to see the first sun of the upcoming year to be more wealthy, in good health and full of success. It is a day Mongolians wear their nicest national dress “Deel”. Hostess makes traditional milk tea and offer best of it first to the earth, then to their shrine, next to the oldest person of the family or host of the family and then serve each member of the family. And then people greet each other by age category younger people come to elders at traditional way of arm greeting. After the ceremony, the extended family eats rice with curds, dairy products and buuz(steamed dumplings) and drinks airag(fermented mares milk). The gathered people in the nomad family play traditional game colourful frogs with the ankle bones, snapping ankle bones, racing horse, flicking ankle bones. Day 5. 28th of February. Second Day of New Year
We will visit second nomadic family. (Nomadic family/B, L, D)

Day 6. 29th of February. Ulaanbaatar
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
